Kenilworth Castle - Approx 4 miles
The rambling ruins of Kenilworth Castle are linked with the names of Simon de Monfort and Elizabeth I. Built of red sandstone you can walk through the arched doorways into the keep, or wander round the ruins of the great hall. They have even re-created the on-site tudor gardens.

Warwickshire villages
If you want to avoid Shakespeare and Stratford-upon-Avon then there are lots of picturesque villages in the vicinity - Wilmcote, Aston Cantlow, Shottery, and Welford-on-Avon to name but a few. Among the sites to visit are Ragley Hall (near Alcester), and Charlecote Park. Deer wander the parkland which was originally landscaped by Capability Brown.
